The universe wants to have pleasure through us.
Transmuting tension, toxins, fear, shame, guilt, & fatigue into vitality, pleasure and LOVE is our deepest service. Love Making Dances integrates yoga, meditation, dance, sensual shamanism, Sufi healing techniques & creating art to transform Love Consciousness at will. Offerings include private sessions, community workshops, classes, rituals, performances, & sacred erotic art.

Love Making Dances CREATES the SOCIAL CHANGE we need to nourish our LOVE
We cultivate physical, emotional, and spiritual resources for sustainable activism. Love Making Dances specifically addresses power systems based on SEX and RACE, two areas where we often internalize judgement, superiority or inferiority. These internal reflections of our social environment constrict our life energy and authentic relationships. We tune in to the "power system" within us as a core to the institutional "power system" we are born into, yet have the potential to transform.

SOUL POWER of SEX

If you want to have power over someone, teach them to be afraid of their own power. Sexual energy is the most powerful energy, it creates the life that is in our body right now. If a woman is ashamed to express her sexual desires or to bring herself to orgasm she is resisting her own life force. She may wait for a man to show her pleasure, to recognize her own wildness, to feel sexy, to honor her body as life giving. She then must rely on someone outside herself to live in her own power. We don't need to Liberate Women, we need to recognize the Liberation of Being a Woman. We define our own beauty, our own sexy, our own kinds of relationships. We decide to honor our menstrual blood and we decide when we want to become pregnant. We decide if we want to end a pregnancy. We make our own pornography, we define erotic, we define our sexuality. When we are fearless about our own choices around sexuality, then we are fearless about everything. If we make porn that our entire soul wants to watch, then why would people keep watching porn that only addresses a fragment of their whole self? We are energetic spiritual and physical beings. Our sexual energy is a central part of our wholeness. We don't have to desexualize ourselves in order to feel safe or powerful.

RACE, HUMAN LOVE NATURE IN CAPTIVITY

Simply by being born white, we inherit institutional privilege. This means that by no fault of our own we have access to jobs, education, and high profile positions where our race will not work against us. It also means that the systems in place to maintain safety, such as the police, the media, the military, and the legal system have a history of recognizing our interests and needs over people who are not white. Many white people may not recognize how this affects our humanity. Internalizing superiority impacts our sense of self, our sense of gratitude, our sense of community, our sense of roots to our ancestors. Often when we go through the process of seeking truth about institutional racism we move through specific emotional stages, although not necessarily in a linear way:

SHOCK.
Wow, the unemployment rate for African American men in NYC is near 50%?!
DENIAL.
It can't be that bad.
BARGAIN.
Well it might be that bad, but we're in a recession and a lot of people are not working. White women don't get paid as much as white men even when we are employed.
ANGER.
This is infuriating. I'm sick of seeing and smelling so many homeless people asking for my money. It pisses me off there is such a gap between the rich and the poor.
DEFENSIVE.
Why are people asking for my help, I didn't make this problem.
SHAME.
I can't believe I have such an easy life. I want people to know that I work hard, know that I buy my pants at the thrift store, and see that I know its hard to be black. I don't know a lot about who I come from, but I love me some Mos Def, and sometimes I wish I were a b-boy. I wish my ancestors gave me rhythms and rituals. I'm a healer, but how can I support people through traumas when my life is so much easier than theirs?
GRIEF.
I feel so alone, all the white people around me seem ok. Am I the only one that sees how horrible this is?
ACCEPTANCE.
Ok. This is the life we've been born into. I have to get really good at releasing all these emotions so I can stay grounded, create community, and make changes. It may not be my fault, but I am responsible because I see the problem.
If we don't have the emotional and spiritual resources to move through these stages and use the information from our emotions, then our activism will not be sustainable. We may feel isolated, try to make other people change to avoid changing ourselves, or we may burn out. Burn "out" of what... our BodyMindSoul? What if I could Burn on Fire while staying "in" my BodyMindSoul? That's Passion. This work is a multigenerational healing process. How can I create a lifestyle and support system so I stay present when I educate myself about white privilege?

We have a dance company called White Folks Soul, By Any Dance Necessary. Check out OUR BLOG.
